More DJI Phantom 5 Photos Making The Rounds

This morning we found new photos on Twitter showing the ongoing confirmation that a DJI Phantom 5 drone is headed our way.

DJI’s first pro-sumer drone with interchangeable lenses like the Inspire 2 Zenmuse X7 combination, will feature 4 interchangeable lenses in 15mm, 24mm, 35mm and 50mm.

DJI originally denied that a new Phantom series was in development, saying that the new drone with interchangeable lenses was merely a “one-off” special project for a commercial customer.

Sporting a shiny new metallic gray plastic shell, the Phantom 5 has moved from concept to prototype swiftly this year.  Based on the images we see today we expect the Phantom 5 to be launched before the end of the year.

Backing up our Phantom 5 theory is the fact that DJI recently advised it’s dealer network that the Phantom 4 Series (not including Phantom 4 Pro V2.0) have been handed “end of life” (EOL) status and will cease production shortly.  Two years after production ends, the EOL drones will no longer be supported.

DJI recently launched the dual-version Mavic 2 Series of drones, available as a Mavic 2 Pro with a Hasselblad camera or a Mavic 2 Zoom that features both optical and digital zoom.

Consumers will be actively debating whether they should buy the Mavic 2 drone now or wait for the Phantom 5 drone to launch.

DJI has also shared news that it will be releasing new product at the annual AirWorks conference in Dallas.  Focused more on the commercial and enterprise side of the drone market, we think DJI could release the rumored DJI Mavic Enterprise drone.

Time will tell with both the Phantom 5 and Mavic Enterprise.  One thing we know is that DJI never stops innovating.  New products are always being developed, and DJI is great at surprising us with the occassional product we never saw coming.
