Mavic 2 Price Drop is Latest Signal that Mavic 3 Drone is Coming Soon
We’ve been reporting on DJI rumors since before the original Mavic Pro drone was released, and in that time we’ve learned there’s a series of very predictable steps in the lead up to a new drone release.
It all starts with rumors and leaked images that hint at the new product and the rumors are eventually confirmed with a regulatory filing. But before that happens DJI’s retail partners start to clear out existing inventory ahead of a product refresh by dropping the price.
It happened today with the first big price drop on the Mavic 2 Zoom at online mega-retailer B&H Photo.
Normally priced at $1349 for the basic Mavic 2 Zoom kit, B&H has lowered their price by $250 down to $1099. That’s a screaming good deal on a super popular drone.
We expect Adorama, another big online retailer to also drop the Mavic 2 Zoom price imminently.
When the Mavic 2 Series was released in 2019 DJI offered two versions: the 20MP Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom. Since then DJI has added robust digital zoom capability to all of it’s newly released drones like the Mini 2 and Mavic Air 2S. Because the Mavic 2 Zoom is being cleared out first it could mean that the Mavic 3 will only be offered in one flavor, that is also capable of zoom.
We think it’s more likely that the Mavic 3 will copy the Autel EVO II setup by offering interchangeable gimbals that could include everything from 8K video for high-end video production to an NDVI odel for crop scanning similar to what’s offered by Sentera.
In our last update on the Mavic 3 we predicted an August 2021 release date, and with today’s price-drop we’re sticking to our prediction.
