DJI “See The Bigger Picture” Drone Event Not Likely Until Aug or Sept

The all new and rumored DJI Mavic 2 folding drone was supposed to launch today, as part of DJI’s “See The Bigger Picture” event in New York City.

As I’m sure you’re aware, that event was postponed by DJI and the internet has been speculating on why ever since.  We’ve also seen some new leaked photos of two new Mavic drones (the Mavic 2 and the Mavic Enterprise).

While DJI has not provided a new date for the See The Bigger Picture event, the most recent rumor we have heard is that production bottlenecks were preventing DJI from having sufficient inventory to launch.

Twitter user @OsitaLV shared this news with us today, citing a “core person from DJI HQ” as his source:

Just over a year ago, DJI launched the Spark drone and efficiently began shipping orders within a month.  A successful release for the new mini-drone after the ongoing delays that plagued the original Mavic Pro.  You’ll recall that the Mavic Pro was launched in the fall of 2017 however shipping delays turned from weeks to months as DJI struggled to get product out the door.

DJI have have decided that asking customers to patiently wait for the product release is much easier to do than patiently waiting for something you’ve paid for that is experiencing months of shipping delays.

Based on the timelines that befell the original Mavic Pro launch, our view is that the new Mavic and “See the bigger picture” launch event are more likely to occur in late August or September at the earliest.
