DJI Pulls Spark Drone From Online Store to Make Room for Mavic Mini

DJI removed the DJI Spark last week as a purchase option at store.dji.com in order to make room for the upcoming Mavic Mini.

Spark accessories like intelligent flight batteries, propellers, propeller guards, charging hubs and more are still available, but if you want to buy a new DJI Spark you’ll have to pick one up on eBay.

The DJI Spark was released in May 2017 and was it’s first, and smallest, fixed-wing mini-drone and also DJI’s first drone to use gesture control.

Since the launch of the Spark, DJI has subsequently released a range of folding arm drones including the Mavic Air and Mavic 2 Series.

The Spark’s only downfall was it’s short 15 minute battery life, but it more than made up for that with it’s compact size and ease of use.

For many, this little quadcopter was the “gateway drug” that got them hooked on aerial imagery, and opened up a new customer category for DJI that wasn’t being tapped.

With new features like hand launch, gesture control and pre-programmed flight modes, the Spark even made Time magazines list of the 25 Top Inventions in 2017.

This week, DJI will be launching a new mini-drone called the Mavic Mini aimed squarely at enthusiasts who want a sub-250 gram quadcopter for those moments when a larger drone is encumbered by flight restrictions.

We’ll always remember how much fun we had trying to make arm movements that the Spark could correctly interpret, but we’re really looking forward to putting the Mavic Mini through it’s paces.

Rumored specs of the Mavic Mini include a 4K camera from the Osmo Pocket, which means a lot of existing Mavic and Phantom owners will likely add the Mavic Mini to their kit to take advantage of those moments when a larger drone can’t be used.
