DJI FPV Drone Release Date Confirmed

“the DJI FPV Combo is creating an entirely new FPV category for advanced users and/or those who just want a turnkey system without setting up a workshop in the basement.”

Add another DJI rumor to the list.  Earlier today we were able to confirm the planned release date for the DJI FPV Drone Combo.

Last year DJI launched a suite of FPV components, including a Controller, FPV Goggles, FPV Camera, and an Air Unit. But we think that was just a distraction while they went to work developing their own FPV drone.

Altogether these DJI FPV components add up to $1000, without including an FPV drone.  DJI probably doesn’t like the idea of strapping it’s gear to someone else’s drone and missing out on the opportunity to disrupt an entire segment of the recreational drone industry.

DJI FPV Combo
The only thing missing in DJI’s original FPV Combo was an FPV drone!

That’s how DJI rolls. And that’s why DJI is the 800 pound gorilla of the global consumer drone business.

Confirmed Specs

What we know so far about the DJI FPV Drone:

  • 4k60fps camera
  • 6 cell lithium battery
  • 21 minute flight time
  • 22.2 Volt / 2000 mAh battery
  • GPS Return-to-Home
  • High-def low latency image transmission
  • Two-axis gimbal
  • 150km/h top speed

We know a lot, but we just weren’t sure when the DJI FPV Drone Combo would drop.

Thanks to some contacts in China we now know the price of the DJI FPV Combo and when it will be released.

Sticker Shock

The DJI FPV Combo is expected to be ¥9688 (Chinese Yuan), or loosely converted to US$1500. We think that price point may even have been the starting point for development of a DJI FPV drone.

On the surface it may look expensive, but when you add up all of the components of a quality FPV system, DJI is very much in the ballpark.

Most FPV drones lack any sort of GPS module or return to home function, 4K60 video and battery life as long as this.

We think the DJI FPV Combo is creating an entirely new FPV category for users looking for performance in a robust airframe, and/or those who just want a complete system without setting up a workshop in the basement.

January Release

DJI loves to drop products on a quarterly system, especially in January.

So, get ready for the DJI FPV Combo to be officially launched on January 8th, 2021 when it will be available for pre-order in the DJI FPV Shop.

Just like the teaser notice that DJI sent out on Twitter for a strange new dual-camera gimbal last night, you should expect to start seeing some sort of social media drips from DJI in the coming weeks.
