DJI FPV COMBO Blends FPV Flying With Cinematic Photography

DJI just released it’s first FPV drone, part of the DJI FPV Combo that’s also the first mass-market ‘turn-key’ FPV system.  While not a purist’s FPV drone, DJI has once again done something completely new by creating what we would call a ‘Hybrid’ FPV drone by adding a 4K60 camera, ultra-low-latency video and forward obstacle avoidance to a high performance aerobatic quadcopter.

Creators will love capturing high-quality, cinematic video from an aerobatic flight perspective.  Think of the DJI FPV Drone as an FPV version of a Mavic series drone. It’s not designed for racing or the boundless freestyle flight we see in so many youtube videos. It’s not designed for long flights to capture aerial landscape photos. But it is a lot of both.

Instead, DJI’s FPV Combo is a ‘gateway drug’ for drone enthusiasts (including those interested in FPV) who haven’t pulled the trigger on a DJI product…until now.  With today’s launch, DJI literally has product in every sector of the drone market.

And based on the website traffic we’ve experienced on FPV-related articles, we can easily forecast that the DJI FPV Combo will be a winner.

Highlights

Here’s the DJI FPV Combo key specs:

  • 1080p120fps/4k60fps video
  • 12 MP stills
  • 20 minute battery
  • Forward Obstacle Avoidance
  • 3 blade propeller
  • Return-to-Home mode
  • US$1299

What’s in the box

The DJI FPV Combo comes fully loaded so you can start flying straight-out-of-the-box. Here’s what’s inside:

  • 2 sets of 3-blade props
  • FPV Controller
  • FPV Drone
  • FPV Goggles V2 & head strap
  • Battery Charger
  • 1 – Intelligent Flight Battery
  • Battery Bank (for Goggles)
  • USB cables
  • Colored hood

Unlike other DJI combos, like the  ‘Fly More Combo’, the DJI FPV Combo only comes with one battery for the drone.  Make note of that as you’ll definitely need to add extras to the cart before checking out. We always recommend you have a minimum of three batteries.

Epic Accessories

DJI also has some optional add-on’s for the FPV Combo, but the #1 accessory is the all-new Motion Controller. Shaped like a Wii remote, the Motion Controller let’s you fly the FPV Drone with one hand using motion to steer and direct altitude while a trigger controls speeds.

FPV flying is other-worldly compared to regular drone piloting, and there will be a break-in period for most who are new to the hobby as they gradually get confident in the air.  We HIGHLY recommend anyone buying the new DJI FPV Combo also invest in DJI Care Refresh to protect their purchase. The odds of crashing in your first flights with an FPV drone are incredibly high!

Where to buy

We generally encourage people to buy direct from store.dji.com because it’s easy to add DJI Care Refresh to your drone during the check-out process.  DJI usually has limited quantities of new product at launch, so if you want the FPV Combo first, you better hit the buy button before the shipping status changes from next day to weeks.

If you prefer to shop inside the USA, we recommend B&H Photo, Adorama, Amazon.

Remember that initial stock is always limited for new products, so if you snooze–you lose.
