The lastest DJI rumor just got a lot more fuel. Earlier this morning we found a leaked video teasing the upcoming DJI Air 2S drone. Pics & new specs below, the full video is at the bottom of this article.
Basically an improved version of the Mavic Air 2, the Air 2S has some serious upgrades that will likely challenge the Mavic 2 Pro’s dominance.
In the video we can clearly see the Air 2S has ADS-B Airsense, as DJI promised all drones released after 2020 will be able to detect neighboring aircraft that are equipped with ADS-B transponders.
‘Almost’ Omni-Directional Obstacle Avoidance
The second enhanced feature is the addition of upward vision sensors which were missing on the original Mavic Air 2. With this improvement the Air 2S will have 4-direction obstacle avoidance. We couldn’t see any side vision sensors in the video, which would normally be located just above the rear leg.
The upward vision sensors have been placed at the front of the drone, unlike the Mavic 2 Pro which has upward sensors at the rear of the drone.
By strategically placing forward and upward sensors so close, DJI may be using enhanced AI to allow the drone to “see” and interpret a broad swath of airspace in front of it.
We’ve seen this image(above) before in an article we wrote a few months agoabout a potential ‘prototype’ version for the original Mavic Air 2. Turns out we were close, but it’s actually an upgrade.
Bigger Sensor
But the big win for Air 2S buyers is the camera. Looking like it’s borrowed from the Mavic 2 Pro, the new DJI Air 2S will sport a 20MP camera with a full 1″ sensor.
No vibe yet on what price is for the Air 2S drone, but expect it to be slightly above the Air 2’s current price of $799, but still under $1000.
April Release Date
We’ve seen others throwing what they claim are “actual release dates” around, but so far none has been announced. The teaser ends with at “Coming Soon” which we interpret to mean THIS MONTH.

Although I would agree on some improvements but I don’t think they will put 1″ sensor as it would dissipate the gap between mid range and top range drones which to me it would be nonsense

i think the placement of the new sensors towards the front allows for sideways obstacle detection without the need to have side sensors.
