Enhance the photo
We always put our images through photo enhancement before we use them or print them. If you’re not confident with advanced software like Lightroom, we suggest you try out an automated solution like Luminar. We still use Skylum’s AirMagic, although it is not longer being sold or updated by the company.
Crop & Adjust
After we’ve enhanced the photo, the next step is to make the perfect crop. You can learn all about the ‘golden ratio’ and the ‘rule of thirds’ on Youtube, but the quick & dirty of it is that the proper crop just makes your image more appealing based on how the human brain works.
We lucked out with the photo we captured, below, of our local ferry returning to it’s winter port, but for the best canvas print we needed to center it and adjust the crop to fit the 24″x36″ ratio we selected.
