VIDEO: Osmo Pocket Wireless Module Unboxing & Setup

(Video is at bottom of this article)

We received the Osmo Pocket Wireless Module yesterday.  It is the last of the three ‘current’ accessories released by DJI, and we reviewed the Controller Wheel and Accessory Mount earlier this week.

Delivery was very fast.  DJI usually ships by DHL, and the Wireless Module arrived from China in just 3 business days.

The Osmo Pocket Wireless Module retails for $59 on it’s own, or as part of the Expansion Kit ($119) that also includes a Samsung 32GB microSD card, the Controller Wheel and the Accessory Mount.

We highly recommend you go with the Expansion Kit.  Now that we have all of the current accessories, we’re pleasantly surprised with how much use we’re actually getting from each one.

Once you have the Wireless Module out of it’s box, you’ll see how simple it is.  The Osmo Pocket only fits onto it one way, with the USB-C connector.  There’s a red LED on the front of the Osmo Pocket that lights up when the Osmo Pocket is on.

The female USB-C on the back of the Wireless Module let’s you charge or power the Osmo Pocket, but it only supplies power. The USB-C connector on the Wireless module does not transfer data.

Connecting your smartphone to the a Wireless Module mounted Osmo Pocket is really easy.

  1. Turn on Bluetooth in your smartphone
  2. Open the MIMO app and click the camera icon on the top left of the screen.
  3. Select the second option, BLUETOOTH
  4. Connect the Osmo Pocket to the Wireless Module
  5. Turn on the Osmo Pocket and watch for the red LED power indicator
  6. Tap ‘NEXT’ on the bottom of the phone screen
  7. When the MIMO app ‘finds’ the Osmo Device tap ‘CONNECT
  8. A pop-up screen will confirm connection asking you to select ‘Join’
  9. The MIMO app will confirm the connection, the red LED on the Wireless base will turn green, and the display on the Osmo Pocket will turn off.

Like I said, it’s incredibly easy to set the Wireless Module up with your smartphone.

The best feature of the Wireless Module is that you can now remotely control the Osmo Pocket with your phone and use all of the advanced PRO mode features built in to the MIMO app….without being physically connected to the Universal Port.

Features like ActiveTrack (which was enhanced in the last firmware update), TimeLapse and MotionLapse can all be managed remotely.

DJI designed the Wireless Module to fit just below the bottom of the Accessory Mount, allowing you to have both accessories atatched at the same time.  Whether mounted to a tripod, or something else, you’re opening up a new level of creative control with these two accessories.
