RUMOR: DJI Stops Shipping Mavic Pro/Platinum
Right on the heels of the recent release of the Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom drones, sources are telling us that DJI will stop shipping the original Mavic Pro and Mavic Pro Platinum to dealers.
Shortly after the Mavic 2 Series of drones was released DJI announced ‘end of life’ (EOL) status for a range of drones including the Phantom 3, and the original Phantom 4 Series (not including the Phantom 4 V2.0).
Normally EOL means that DJI will no longer support the devices about 2 years after production ceases. At the date of release we didn’t have any clear timelines.
CONFIRMED: DJI To Mothball Phantom 4 Drone, Mavic Pro, Osmo and More
But yesterday we heard whispers that 3rd party resellers are being notified by DJI that they will not receive any further shipments of the Mavic Pro or the Mavic Pro Platinum, which starts the clock on when these drones will stop being supported by DJI.
It also means that DJI will try to push remaining inventory out the door so we predict that a price drop on the original Mavic Pro could be coming. Currently you can get the Mavic Pro basic kit at B&H Photo for about $814.99….almost $200 less than from DJI. The Fly More Combo has been lowered to $1112.99 at B&H showing similar savings. DJI has yet to lower the price at store.dji.com but we expect they’re giving the resellers a chance to reduce their inventory before DJI clears out its stock.
