“New Products” already on the schedule for DJI At NAB2018

NABSHOW starts tomorrow, bringing together all of the film and broadcast industry leaders that serve the National Association of Broadcasters.  If it has to do with video production it is at NAB.

Last year DJI released a new version of it’s cinematic camera mount, the Ronin-S, at the NABSHOW 2017 in Las Vegas.  This year DJI has it’s usual booth and will also be offering up a session that has caught our eye.

As the image above shows, on April 7th DJI will present a “Learning Lab” featuring “New Products”.

What “new products” are we referring to here?  No one know yet. But it’s potentially one of two things: DJI is referring to the new Inspire 2 – Zenmuse X7 combination that was released late 2017 or DJI is releasing another product at NABSHOW.

We think it could be the latter.  After the Zenmuse was released we received an email from one of our readers who shared details on a new Ronin prototype in development that will accomodate the new Zenmuse X7 camera gimbal.

Basically the new Ronin is a camera brain with built in stabilization that is purpose built for the X7.  Roughly about the sames size as an fs5 camera body in a hand-rig, you attach your Zenmuse X7 to this “brain” and the built in steadycam arm adds an extra axis of up/down cotnrol while the X7 gimbal manages the other axes.

The body/brain contains a bevvy of camera controls: start/stop, xlr, sdi, etc.  With this new X7 Ronin, DJI is building an all-in-one professional camera system that doesn’t require flight or steadycam in a smaller lightweight package.  The camera portion can be swapped between the Ronin rig and your drone.

Testing was rumored to be starting mid-winter on this mystery X7 Ronin, so we’ll keep our ears to the ground.

The Phantom 4 V2.0 could also be released at NAB2018 as well.  One of the few DJI rumors that has actually panned out, now that the Phantom 4 V2.0 has received FCC approval for sale in USA, it’s just a matter of waiting for DJI to launch it.

The Mavic Pro II (2) rumor has taken on a life of it’s own, and much of what has been ‘concepted’ or ‘imagined’ by various people on the internet is just fantasy.  Early in 2018 it was reported the MP2 was “in production” and lately we’re hearing that there will now be two versions of the MP2 with different sized camera sensors.

So the Mavic Pro II (2) rumor mill has reached game level absuridity.  Call us when you have a photo.

The DJI Spark was released about a month after NAB2017, so maybe we’ll have an event to look forward to later this Spring.

Either way, NABSHOW is a big deal.  And all eyes will be on DJI to either see what is new or hear whispers of what is coming next.
