NEISTAT: Mavic Air is “My Favorite Drone I’ve Ever Used”
It’s funny how history has a way of repeating itself, or at least rhyming.
About a year and a half ago we wrote an article on the newly launched DJI Mavic Pro (can you believe it’s only been a year???) and in the article we profiled a famous Youtuber and framed the article around his opinion of the new DJI Mavic Pro drone.

The Youtuber was Casey Neistat, and after getting a pre-release version of the Mavic Pro he summed it up by saying it “the greatest drone ever.” And at the time we agreed. Neistat doesn’t hand out endorsements freely, and will often post subtitles in his vlog that just because he’s using/trying a device doesn’t mean it’s an endorsement. Until the Mavic Pro arrived, Neistat had years of experience flying drones, especially Phantoms, for his vlog.
Fast-forward to this week, just prior to the Adventure Unfolds live event in New York, and we noticed that many of the Youtubers we follow (like Casey, iJustine, etc.) had either gone quiet for a day or vlogged about a ‘secret mission’ they were on.
What they were doing was shooting video and capturing experiences with the new DJI Mavic Air so they would have instant video ready to publish alongside the Mavic Air launch marketing machine. It’s just part of being a famous Youtuber to get special deals like that from DJI.
After his comments last year, the Mavic Pro became the lead drone in Casey’s videos, where he basically shelved the Phantom 4 due to bulkyness using it mostly for still photos.
So what does Casey say about the new Mavic Air? Lots. Check it out:
“If you told me three years ago I’d have a flying 4K camera that takes picture quality this good I might not have believed you.”
Sounds like he approves of DJI’s latest flying camera.
But he goes further in his comments. Like the headline of the article shows, Neistat says the Mavic Air “is my favorite drone I’ve ever used” That is a raging endorsement from someone who knows drones.
“This is going to replace probably all the drones that I use….Moving forward this will always be in my backpack alongside my camera, lenses and extra batteries.”
We couldn’t agree more. The Mavic Pro has a certain noisy brutishness that detracted from it’s compact spirit and the Spark, well it was honestly more toyish to fill a slot in the market to get more people to step into DJI’s upgrade cycle.
The Mavic Air is just about everything we felt was missing from the DJI Spark and it is truly a Mavic inside. Great job DJI. We’re counting down the days until our Mavic Air arrives (we bought the Fly More Combo) and we look forward to putting it through the paces.
Mavic Air is $799 for drone, battery & controller….or $999 in the well equipped Fly More Combo placing it squarely between the Mavic Pro and Spark for pricing. Shipping begins January 28th, just 4 days from now.
