Multiple Sources Suggest DJI Event Won’t Be A Drone
Anyone who follows new product launches will be familiar with the mysterious OsitaLV twitter handle.
For over two years he’s been one of the internet’s most reliable sources of DJI product news before it’s news.
And the growing community of drone bloggers and Youtubers keeps scouring the web for any breadcrumb of news or rumor that can be shared. Which is how we found the details we’re sharing today, courtesy of Quadcopter Guide’s Youtube channel.
In their most recent video, they shared how FCC filings and approvals are a good source of information on new product releases. DJI’s most recent FCC filing, for a product called the Osmo Pocket Wireless Receiver, didn’t have a lot of clues about it’s purpose.
But buried in the FCC filing was one page that listed “Osmo Pocket” on the list of ‘Support Equipment’ for the Osmo Pocket Wireless Module.
Has the FCC filing for one product accidentally revealed another product? Quadcopter Guide seems to think so.
Now back to OsitaLV. This sage sharer of news and speculation has had a decent track record in the years we’ve known him. The list of correct predictions he has made is lengthy, but he takes a bit of abuse because some enthusiasts mistake his ‘vision’ of what products are coming for facts. Sometimes OsitaLV is just daydreaming…and he admits it.
One of his most recent Twitter polls asks what product you think is coming on November 28th lists an Osmo Pocket as one of the choices. If you click on that selection, not only does it record your vote but a ‘checkmark’ appears.
It would suggest that the checkmark is just for marking your choice, but we’ve seen it used before.
But when we look back at previous Twitter polls by OsitaLV, the same checkmark(above) appears and it has always been next to the product DJI ended up releasing.
We’ve seen this before with the DJI Forums Twitter account when the Zenmuse X7 was released. After voting in their poll in October 2017 a checkmark appeared beside the “Cam for Inspire/Matrice” option.
Could lightning be striking twice?
Sadly the @DJIforums twitter user seems to have disappeared. We seem to recall that their description said they weren’t associated with DJI so there may have been some brand confusion issues that DJI didn’t like.
We’re still keeping an open mind about the November 28th launch “Because Life Is Big” in New York City. As we get closer to the event we expect the leaks and rumors to continue to swirl until the actual release happens, but we’re still keeping an open mind.
In addition to a potential Phantom 5 drone, we also know that DJI has been showing some heavy-duty workhorse drones with movie people in Hollywood as well as an elaborate, wearable Ronin mount. If we know anything about DJI, it’s that they often surprise us with something we weren’t expecting at all.
We’ll be flying to New York for the event on November 28th, so stay connected to our site via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and our email newsletter to be the first to find out what DJI releases next.
