Mavic Air 2 drone user manual leak more specs revealed – “stitched” 48MP stills, 34 minute battery, OcuSync confirmed

The Mavic Air 2 drone release is just days away, and the leaks of photos and updated specs keeps coming our way.

The new photos, courtesy of the Brazil’s ANATEL (their version of the FCC) provide more detailed photos of the Mavic Air 2 not seen before.

We can confirm that there IS NOT a top sensor, which confirms there will not be omni-directional obstacle avoidance.

Today we’ve received more leaked photos of the Mavic Air 2 as well as more confirmed specs from the owner’s manual.

In our last update we shared high confidence that the new Mavic Air 2 would have OcuSync 2.0 as well as a version with ADS-B receiver. Obviously we knew at the time that these features were 100% correct.

But we’re especially pleased to see that our calculations on battery life have proven almost completely correct: the Mavic Air 2 will have 34 minutes of flight time.

Even more impressive are the remaining details on the Mavic Air 2 that fill in the missing pieces.

Here are all of the specs we can 100% confirm:

  • DJI Fly app will be used for Mavic Air 2
  • 1080p image transmission to smartphone
  • OcuSync 2.0
  • 8km range
  • ActiveTrack 3.0
  • Point of Interest 3.0
  • QuickShots
  • Advanced Pilot Assistance 2.0 (APAS)
  • top speed 68.4 km/h
  • maximum flight time 34 minutes
  • 4K video (although framerate has yet to be confirmed)
  • 1/2″ CMOS sensor with 12MP camera capable of stitched 48MP stills

With it’s choice of camera and sensor, DJI is pitting the tiny Mavic Air 2 against the just released Autel EVO II which also sports a 48MP still camera. Of course the EVO II records 8K video, has 40 minute flight time and omni-directional obstacle avoidance…so it’s sort of a ‘best effort’ challenge by the smaller Mavic Air 2.

New features, such as ActiveTrack 3.0 bring improved AI and machine learning into your videos for the most precise object tracking available.  Other recent launches such as the Ronin SC and the Osmo Mobile 3 also use ActiveTrack 3.0.

3 Key Features Still Unknown

We haven’t any details yet in the leaks to confirm that the Mavic Air 2 will shoo 4K at 60fps, but with that 1/2″ sensor capable of 48MP stills we have to think it’s very, very likely.

And the other big question for us is all about the OcuSync 2.0 that we told you about in our last report.  The big question for us is whether the Smart Controller will also work with the new Mavic Air 2. If it does, this is an epic improvement to have a controller that usable with multiple devices on the OcuSync 2.0 system.

Finally, on board storage was a hit with the original Mavic Air 2 and the Mavic Air 2.  It’s been a big help for all pilots who have either run out of SD space or showed up to film without a memory card.

We’re just days from the actual product release, so be sure to bookmark the DJI Mavic Air 2 launch page here. And be sure to check back with us frequently because we will be reporting all leaks of photos and specs in real time until the Mavic Air 2 is officially released.
