DJI’s Mavic Mini 2 is due for release ‘any day’…but someone was apparently able to buy one from their local BestBuy…and they posted a Youtube video to prove it.
BestBuy has been an unintentional source for many leaked DJI photos over the years. Some staff may be unaware that new product shipments contain products that are under an embargo and put them out on display.
The video looks really convincing. The shrink-wrapped box, typeface, chinese characters. There’s so much to believe about this video. Based on our analysis, this video is completely real.
So let’s get to the features:
- less than 249 grams (rumored to be 245g to accomodate an ND filter and still be below 250g)
- 31 minute flight time
- OcuSync 2.0 HD Video Transmission with 10km range
- 4K Video
- Quickshots, Panorama, One-tap Video
Because the Mini 2 has OcuSync, DJI has also upgraded it to use the same controller as the Mavic Air 2. And it should also work with the Smart Controller. RC chargers your phone and no more antennas to adjust.
Batteries for the Mavic Mini 2 are a now light gray in color to match the Mini 2, as is the Two-Way Charging Hub.
Propellors for the Mini 2 are different as well, now sporting an orange stripe at the tip instead of gray like the original Mavic Mini.
Looking at the two drones side-by-side it’s easy to see that this isn’t a fake out:
We’re pumped for this release. Now that the Mini 2 has OcuSync and 4K, the only limit will be fighting the wind.
Hopefully we have 100 mpbs write speed in 4K, but we’ll have to wait and confirm.
It’s almost unheard of for DJI to replace a product so quickly, but they’re engineers must have been working overtime trying to make it next-level and more likely to be adopted.
No word on price yet, but we expect it to be very close to the $399 price tag of the original Mini, or $499 in the Fly More Combo.
What do you think? Is it legit? And are you planning on upgrading now that you know it has specs like OcuSync and 4K?
