LEAKED PHOTOS: Did Bloggers Tweet Photos of New DJI Osmo Pocket?
One of our best sources of information on new products is online tweeters and bloggers based in China. Most of you who use our site are familiar with twitter user OsitaLV, but there is a less known blogger “kanzhaji” who is just as prolific.
Earlier this morning @OsitaLV tweeted out the photo above to his 6800 Twitter followers showing a photo he claims is an “Osmo Pocket” resting on the subject’s palm.
The picture is self-explanatory. You can see the DJI logo on the device in two places. It has what appears to be a 2-axis camera gimbal that looks very much like the DJI Spark gimbal in size. The actual camera itself looks more like the recently released Mavic 2 Pro with a more rectangular shape.
The new device appears to be pocket-sized indeed. Barely as wide as two fingers, and about 4 inches long, we’re eager to find out exactly what this device does.
Is this what is going to be released by DJI on November 28th? Time will tell. We know the internet is hungry for a new Phantom 5.
We’ve been fooled in the past, and there’s no way to know if this image is an actual product now loose in public, or if it’s just one of the prototypes inside the DJI labs that isn’t going to see the light of day.
If this device is in fact a new product, as referred to in the FCC filings, called an Osmo Pocket we need to know a lot more about it.
Is it supposed to be an ‘action camera’ to compete with GoPro? Knowing how much difficulty GoPro has had over the last two years does it make sense to enter this market? Or is this a handheld camera aimed a creators like those vlogging on Youtube? Or is it something differen altogether?
We expect more leaked specs and photos to show up on the web as we get closer to the announcement next week. After all of the products we have seen released over the last few years it’s almost guaranteed. And we’ve often wondered if DJI does some of it’s own leaking as well to help generate buzz and excitement around new products.
OsitaLV tweeted out his own drawing of the device above back in July that is astonishingly close in appearance to the photo of the alleged Osmo Pocket.
OsitaLV has been leaking product information and images for years. And he’s boasted about being a DJI BBS member, which we guess must put him close to developers and engineers? Considering he uses OsitaLV as his DJI BBS ID as well, we have to assume that DJI knowns exactly who OsitaLV is and he may even be an ‘authorized leaker’.
We only have a few days to wait. Until then, enjoy your Black Friday deals!
Stay tuned for more updates as they come. After all, it’s leaks & rumors season with an upcoming DJI event less than a week away.
