EXCLUSIVE: DJI Adds Smart Controller to Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 drone via new firmware!

DJI’s webpage for the DJI Smart Controller mentions in the footnotes that it’s “compatible with all DJI drones using OcuSync 2.0″.

Unfortunately that didn’t seem to include the Phantom 2 Pro V2.0…until now!

Just minutes ago, and mere hours ahead of the Mavic Air 2 launch, DJI has a new firmware update for the Phantom 2 Pro V2.0 that now makes it compatible with DJI Smart Controller.

DJI Smart Controller

If you haven’t experienced the DJI Smart Controller yet, it’s incredible.

We’ve owned every DJI drone since 2016 and we would not trade the DJI Smart Controller for any of the others. Hands down it is the most stable connection both via signal and connection to the display. There are no OTG cables to fail. You don’t have a smartphone battery and array of apps to worry about. It just works perfectly at lightning speed.

Today’s release of new firmware adding the Phantom 2 Pro V2.0 to the DJI Smart Controller is no coincidence…we reported last week that the new Mavic Air 2 would have DJI Smart Controller compatibility so we new a firmware update was coming.

This update is great news for anyone who owns, or is considering, the Phantom 2 Pro V2.0.

But enough about our review.

The other benefit of the new Phantom 2 Pro V2.0 update is you can now used DJI Goggles with the Phantom 2 Pro V2.0!

The new Phantom 2 Pro V2.0 firmware adds the following new features:

  • Added suport for Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 with Smart Controller. Under Aircraft Management, the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 an now be added and managed.
  • Added ability to view HDMI live broadcast by conneting the goggles to the DJI Smart Controller (v01.00.07.00 or above). By connecting the goggles to the DJI Smart Controller using USB-C cable, users can see the camera view of teh air unit on the screen of teh Smart Controller, and then can transmit the live view from the Smart Controller to other display devices through an HDMI cable.
  • Optimized the overall user experience of Smart Controller.

Check out DJI’s tutorial on updating the Smart Controller firmware to accept these features.

If you’re a Phantom 2 Pro V2.0 owner, welcome to the club! You are going to LOVE the DJI Smart Controller!
