DJI Ronin-S Firmware Update Adds Focus Control for Sony Alpha A7 M3 and R3 Mirrorless Cameras

Out of the gate, the DJI Ronin-S promised camera functionality across a range of popular DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras.  Unfortunately, the reality is that adapting the Ronin-S firmware to accomodate a wide range of cameras has proven to be a challenge.

Since the Ronin-S was launched DJI has been continuously improving the firmware and working hard to add functions like pull focus, shutter control and more.

The latest firware update for the Ronin-S now allows Sony Alpha camera owners to manually control focus using the Ronin-S.

The update has been specifically tested and shown to work with a Sony A7-Miii and Sony A7-Riii cameras, which means you can now start/stop video and pull focus with the Ronin-S.  Photo capture still not available yet, however that could still be added in a future update.

The full details of the firmware update, as well as the download, are available at the DJI website.

If you’re a Sony A7-Miii or A7-Riii user, let us know how the update works for you in the comments below.
