DJI Pocket 2: More leaked images and specs
The new DJI Pocket 2 (apparently the OSMO has been dropped from the name) will be officially released in 3 days. Which means the next few days will be full of leaked photos and endless rumors. Today is no exception as we share the latest images of the new DJI Pocket 2.
Bigger, better camera
The first thing you’re going to notice about the Pocket 2 is the larger camera lens. Word is the Pocket 2 camera has been borrowed from the DJI Mavic Air gimbal which means it could be a 1/2 inch sensor. The Mavic Air 2 also has a recently updated digital zoom feature which would be amazing to have in a compact handheld camera like the Pocket 2.
Joystick control
The original Osmo Pocket had an optional, and bulky, Control Wheel that toggled between tilt and pan control for the gimbal. Pocket 2 has replaced the control wheel with a much smaller joystick and an accessory button, and it leaves the built in buttons still accessible.
Voice control
One feature we haven’t been able to confirm yet is ‘voice control’. First released with the Osmo Action it was a really important feature to have going head-to-head with GoPro for the first time. We think there is likely going to be some type of voice control in the Pocket 2.

Two Kits
Like most DJI products, Pocket 2 comes in a Standard Kit that includes the Pocket 2, USB-C cable, case, and Apple and USB-C Smartphone Adapters, as well as a module. The Pro Bundle includes a tripod, wide-angle lens adapter, a dual USB-C cable for separate charging and data streaming as well as two accessories we found in the FCC filings last week: a Wireless Microphone with a wind cover and the Do-it-all Handle.
It’s taken a while for DJI to get to this point, but the improvements in the Pocket 2 make up for the mis-engineered features of the original Osmo Pocket.
The microSD port remains on the side of the Pocket 2, but a closer look at the images show what could be additional holes around the sides for omni-directional microphones.
There’s also a new button on the side of the Pocket 2 that could be programmable or to toggle between different modes similar to the Quick Switch button on the Osmo Action.

Coming October 20th
DJI emailed a quick note other day announcing ‘officially’ that this months worst kept secret, the Pocket 2 will be officially released on October 20th at 9:00EDT.
We’ve been using the original Osmo Pocket fairly regularly since we received a ‘pre-release- model in 2018, but issues with how the USB-C was designed prevented advanced users from being able to operate a microphone and use the Wireless Module at the same. For us it meant that the original Osmo Pocket was great for capturing B-roll, but we had to rely on other camera gear for shooting videos for our Youtube channel.
So far it looks like all of this has been fixed in the new DJI Pocket 2, and that means I have only 3 words to say to DJI based on what I’ve seen so far in the Pocket 2: Take my money.
