DJI Mini 2 is much more drone than we expected!
DJI has officially released the new 4K Mini 2 drone store.dji.com and they’ve packed even more features into an even lighter airframe.
But don’t be deceived. The Mini 2 is designed to have Level 5 wind resistance, so it can handle 29-38kph winds. The original Mavic Mini was only Level 4 wind resistance so this is a major step up to keep us flying.
OcuSync 2.0
We all knew this was coming, and it HUGELY widens the audience of potential buyers for the Mini 2. If you haven’t experienced OcuSync 2.0 you are in for a treat.
Let me summarize it in three words: Epic Signal Strength
And it means the DJI Smart Controller will eventually be compatible with the Mini 2…which expands the envelope of potential buyers.s
If you haven’t experienced the DJI Smart Controller yet, let me share some insight from a professional drone reporter: it’s a game changer.
Our biggest complaint with drones has been the cables and connections between janky smartphones and controllers. Phone not charged enough. Cable fails. Connection fails. Forgot the cable. Connection time burns up too many minutes of battery.
No more. With the Smart Controller your connect is almost instant and you have a screen that is several times brighter than your iPhone and almost immune to any glare.
And if you didn’t already know, the Mini 2’s remote controller will also charge your smartphone while you’re flying so you’ll be able to fly a lot longer!
Digital Zoom
We love drones like the Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic Air 2 that let you zoom in on subjects. It just makes capturing the images you want so much easier.
Now with the Mini 2 you have 3 choices of zoom:
- 2x in 4K
- 3x in 2.7K
- 4x in 1080p
Recently DJI provided a firmware update for the Mavic Air 2 that also added a zoom feature. When we tested it didn’t notice any loss of image quality, so why wouldn’t you use it?
Adding zoom to the Mini 2 is a real step up for your aerial imagery aspirations, and it will let you get the shot you want when the area you’re flying in is a challenge.
4K30fps Video at 100 mpbs bitrate
This was a top concern from interested buyers as we were sharing specs ahead of the launch. So we’re relieved to see the 4K write speed is on par with DJI’s other 4K products like the Mavic Air 2 and Pocket 2.

If you’re in Europe expect to pay about €448 for the Basic Kit, or €584 for the Fly More Combo.
12MP Photos
This was pretty much a given, but knowing the enhancements that the DJI Fly app has had over the last few months, your aerial photography game is about to get a big boost. If you haven’t stepped into the world of panoramas, the Mini 2 will be the drone that changes your mind.
DJI has added new features in the DJI Fly to make your photos better and easier to share quickly.
‘Enhance Photo’ function automatically enhances the image quality of your photos when they are downloaded, resulting in brighter colors and mor vivid details.
‘QuickTransfer’ lets you connect your smartphone directly the Mini 2’s wifi and transfer files from the drone’s photo album at speeds up to 20MB/s…without using the remote controller! This will be a huge time saver, letting you share your captures to social media right away.
And for video, ‘Trimmed Download’ lets you select a clip from a video and download it directly to your phone saving time and valuable memory.
New ‘Standard Weight’
The original Mavic Mini was 249 grams out of the box. Which left a lot of drone enthusiasts wondering if they would be offside with regulations by adding an ND filter.
The new Mini 2 with a microSD card is actually 242 grams out of the box, leaving some leeway to add a filter while staying within various regulations for micro-drones!
Great work on this DJI.
DJI Care Refresh is now upgraded to 3 replacements
We’ve been fans of DJI Care Refresh for years. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely inexpensive and the benefits are worth it. (Learn more here)
DJI Care Refresh is like Apple Care for your drone, and DJI just upped the value by increasing the number of potential replacements to 3 within 2 years….and 2 year coverage is now a purchase option at checkout at the DJI Store.
It’s in Stock and Ships Immediately!
Looking at the DJI Store inventory, if you act quickly you’ll be in the first flight of drones being shipped. As I write this shipping is 1 business day after payment.
But act fast, we expect the shipping time could change within minutes as those of us with fast fingers gobble up the initial inventory.
As usual, DJI is limitiing buyers to one unit only at checkout due to limited product availability.
