DJI Adds Rigorous Controls to Satisfy US Government on Data Security

More than once in the last few years, government agencies in the United States have taken action to limit or restrict use of DJI apps and hardware due to heightened security concerns.

As the world leader in civilian drones and aerial imaging technoligy, DJI has just released a high-security data managment solution called DJI Government Edition (GE). While DJI customers have always had full control over how the data they generate with drones is collected, stored and transmitted, Government Edition ensures that drone data (including photos and videos captured during flight) never leaves the drone and therefore can never be shared with unauthorized parties including DJI.

DJI Government Edition’s unique systems architecture ensures that it meets the stringent requirements of the government sector for data management, risk mitigation and enterprise-level data sharing control.

“This is DJI’s most secure drone solution to-date because it prevents users from accidentally or even intentionally transferring data off of the drone to other parties. By incorporating these assurances into its architecture, the Government Edition solution meets the rigorous data security expectations of government agencies, and provides them the safety, reliability, and ease of operation that DJI’s products are respected for by commercial drone pilots around the world.”

DJI is also taking the ground-breaking step of moving some of the assembly of it’s latest enterprise drone, the Mavic 2 Enterpries Dual, to a repurposed facility in Cerritos, CA.

While the assembly of the M2ED represents only a small portion of DJI’s global production, executives hope that the move will help satisify some trade and other requirements and allow the drone to be sold to government agencies at all levels in the US.

Further adaptions to the Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual also mean that data it collects will only be kept locally on the drone, and cannot be accessed until it has landed, meaning there is not ability to wireless transmit information online.

DJI’s Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual features:

  • 12MP 1/2.3″ CMOS Sensor + 4K Recording
  • FLIR Thermal Imaging Sensor
  • 5 Mile Transmission Range
  • Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing
  • 31 Minute Max Flight Time
  • 24GB of Password Protected Storage
  • DJI AirSpace Alerts on Nearby Aircraft
  • Spotlight, Speaker, and Beacon Included
  • Remote Controller Included

Consumers can currently order the $2949 Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual from 3rd party resellers such as B&H Photo and Adorama.
