DJI Action 2 Is Here! Price|Specs|Where To Buy

The wait is over and you can finally buy the new DJI Action 2 camera!

It’s been almost two and half years since DJI released the original Osmo Action to compete with GoPro, and since then the HERO action camera has seen 3 updates and new competitors from the likes of Insta360.

But now the refeshed DJI Action 2 is here and we’re excited to see whether the new modular Action 2 ecosystem is right for creators.

If you didn’t already know, Action 2 is a box-shaped action camera with a 1/1.7″ CMOS sensor and a rear 1.76″ 350ppi OLED screen that’s waterproof to 10 meters.  Weighing just 56 grams, Action 2 is as tiny as it is powerful.

DJI has put the standard f/2.8 lens in front of it’s beefy sensor and given it a 155° field of view (FOV).

ISO range for both photo and video is 100-6400, and maximum photo resolution is 12MP in both JPEG and RAW. With the voice activated countdown feature Action 2 can set a timer ranging from 0.5 to 10 seconds.

Standard video tops out at 4K 24/25/30/48/50/60 with a 130 Mbps bitrate, which comes as a surprise since the GoPro HERO10 (really the only competition) shoots at 5.3K60fps.  Honestly we’re not sure what DJI was thinking here, but it’s possible that the Action 2 was designed to be released last year but because of the pandemic and supply chain issues it was delayed. That could mean an Action 3 just around the corners that is compatible with all of the new Action 2 modules and accessories.

And all of the photos and video you shoot can be stored on the Action 2’s built-in 32GB of capacity. But if you want to install a microSD card it can only go in an attached module (max capacity 256GB).

Remaining video modes for the DJI Action 2 are:

  • 4K (4:3) 4096×3072 @ 24/25/30/48/50/60
  • 4K (16:9) 3840×2160 @ 100/120fps
  • 4K (16:9) 3840×2160 @ 24/25/30/48/50/60
  • 2.7K (4:3) 2688×2016 @ 24/25/30/48/50/60
  • 2.7K (16:9) 2688×1512 @ 100/120fps
  • 2.7K (16:9) 2688×1512 @ 24/25/40/48/50/60
  • 1080p 1920×1080 @ 100/120/200/240
  • 1080p 1920 x1080 @ 24/25/30/48/50/60

In Slow Motion mode the Action 2 caputres 4K at 4x (120fps), 2.7K at 4x (120fps) and 1080p 8x (240fps) and 4x (120p).

Action 2 builds on the RockSteady feature of the original Osmo Action incorporating RockSteady 2.0 as well as new HorizonSteady and Electronic Image Stabilization.

Battery life in the Action 2 is about 70 minutes, which is less than half of the GoPro HERO10’s 2h11m battery life.

You can pair the DJI Action 2 with it’s new Touchscreen Module that will extend the usable time of the action camera. The Action 2 Front Touchscreen Module features the same 1.76′ OLED screen that’s on the back of the Action 2.
