BREAKING: DJI Releasing Osmo Mobile 3 – Now It Folds!
DJI has been on a roll lately releasing new products like the improved Ronin-SC and the just-released FPV Goggles and Controller.
The latest DJI rumor, confirmed by the FCC filing this morning, is the pending release of the 3rd version of the very popular Osmo Mobile called Osmo Mobile 3. We expect OM3 to be released in a couple of days, make sure you click follow for notifications when it’s officially released.
Following DJI products for several years now, it’s been great to see how this 3-axis smartphone gimbal has evolved over time.
The first version of the Osmo Mobile was awkwardly designed in that the motorized arms of the gimbal didn’t nest together nicely for storage….so it was always a bit of a clunker.
Next came the Osmo Mobile 2, which solved the nesting arm issue and made it much easier to stow and pack in a camera bag or backpack. DJI made other enhancements to the Osmo Mobile 2 like the ability to charge your smartphone while in use via USB, and enhanced battery life.
The Osmo Mobile 2 was still a bit large for our liking though, so once the Osmo Pocket came along we stopped using the Osmo Mobile altogether.
The big change being released with the Osmo Mobile 3 that the entire 3-axis armature folds down against the handgrip for an even more compact storage solution.
Here’s what else we noticed in the new DJI Osmo Mobile 3:
- shorter handgrip – makes for better storage, and a less obvious device
- retains 1/4-20 tripod nut in bottom of handgrip
- wider smartphone grip should accomodate phones with protective cases
- single joystick button for pan and tilt
- two thumb buttons – one for power, and 2nd for start/stop record and take photo
- retains USB charging port for smartphone
No word yet on battery life or smart functions to be integrated into DJI GO app.
We should expect to see Intelligent modes like:
- Activetrack
- MotionLapse
- HyperLapse
- TimeLapse
After the Osmo Pocket was released, many readers thought that the Osmo Mobile was going to be phased out. Apparently it’s back, and better than ever.
What do you think? Will you buy the new DJI Osmo Mobile 3?
