LEAK: Is a ‘Phantom R’ Racing Drone On The Way?

Normally at this time of year we’re used to seeing a new drone released for the shopping season and/or a really great sale, not a super hot DJI rumor.

Well we do have an incredible sale (DJI Black Friday) but In a recent DJI Instagram video post promoting the new DJI Goggles Racing Edition, instagrammer @justinweisser may have found an Easter Egg for a new Phantom series of racing drone.

Tentatively called the Phantom R, the fixed wing drone makes several brief appearances in the video accompanied by a callout identifying the pilot (Bruce) and the drone (Phantom R?).

In other screen grabs of the video you can clearly see the similarities of this mystery Phantom R with the existing Phantom series of drones.  Except for one thing: landing gear.  The fixed wing Phantom R has dropped the weight and air-friction of the Phantom landing gear and is likely equipped with landing bumpers under the prop motors or belly of the aircraft.

Is this a new Phantom drone re-imagined for racing?

And it all makes perfect sense!  DJI has released the upgraded Goggles specifically for racing enthusiasts and next they’ll be able fly a DJI racing drone that is truly built for speed!

If you see or hear anything about the DJI Phantom R drone, be sure to let us know through our contact page.  Let us know in the comments what you think about the new DJI Phantom R.
