LEAK: DJI Osmo Mobile 2 Clears FCC

One of this holiday seasons biggest DJI price drops is the 30% savings on the DJI Osmo Mobile smartphone stabilizer. It’s such a great deal we even picked one up!  After all, $199 for a three axis smartphone stabilizer with all of the incredible features that come with the DJI GO app is a hugee bargain…and that deal is still going.

While the DJI rumor mill is running wild with news of a DJI Mavic 2 in the works, today our FCC sniffer picked up real news that a DJI Osmo Mobile 2 is FCC approved, and coming to a shelf near you as soon as January 2018.  The new Osmo Mobile 2 will wear Model #: OM170.

The test images of the new Osmo Mobile 2 are embargoed until January 25th, and an embargo date usually coincides with, or is after, a new product launch date.

The exising Osmo Mobile, with a range of fantastic image and video capture features and modes will be hard to top, since most of it’s value is in the DJI GO app.

Here’s a few ideas we expect might be incorporated in the new Osmo Mobile 2:

  • higher capacity battery
  • adjustable smartphone tray allowing lateral adjustment for balance
  • wider range of motion in vertical panning
  • earphone jack/audio in out

One improvement we’d like to see is a better Osmo base.  The existing one is a little flimsy for our liking.

One subtle detail we noticed in the sketch above is that the smartphone grip appears to be removable from the axis it connects to.  This would allow for a range of attachments for 3rd party products(GoPro?), as well as other existing or yet to be released DJI compact camera units.

Let us know what features you’d like to see in the new Osmo Mobile 2.

We think the new Osmo Mobile 2 will setlle in at the Osmo Mobile’s original $299 price point, and the remaining Osmo Mobile units will be permanently priced at $199 until inventory is gone.

  • This is great news. Hope also that this second version works great with iPhone X!

    • Totally agree! I’ve been wanting one but holding off in hopes of better compatibility with the iPhone X. Looks like we should be seeing a new version soon.
