VIDEO LEAK: It’s a Zenmuse X7 for Inspire 2

While DJI has continued to tease us from the @DJIForums twitter handle, we’ve had to reach out to our sources in Asia for some help on what’s coming next week.

Earlier this week the DJI Forums twitter handle winked our way by saying they hope the new release is a P5.  Wait. What? Are you just teasing us or was that a genuine hint?!  I’m so confused!

Maybe an P5 is coming, eventually.  But this morning we confirmed that ‘Reflections’ is all about the DJI Inspire 2 mounted Zenmuse X7 Cinematic Gimbal Camera.

Actually, DJIForums confirmed it for all of us, or at least 13% of the people who clicked the poll on the pinned tweet.  The checkmark we got when we selected ‘Cam for Inspire/Matrice’ was our go ahead nod to keep running with this.

You can clearly see ‘Zenmuse X7; on the collar of the IMU.

First we saw the images, and struggled to figure out what it connects to.

Then, yesterday, along comes a sketch on a piece of paper and a photograph showing us clearly what is a Zenmuse X7 that was rumored back in February.

The Zenmuse X7 is described as a “Cinematic Gimbal Camera”.

For still photos it uses a 35mm CMOS chip with a 16 range Dynamic Range.  on the video side it shoots 4.6k at 60fps and captures it all using a CFast 2.0 memory with speed up to 4.1 Gbps.

Other resolutions include:

  • 4096×2304 (4k 16;9)
  • 4608×1920 (4k 2.4:1)
  • 4096×2160 (4k DCI)
  • 3840×2160 (Ultra HD)
  • 3072×2560 (3K Anamorphic)
  • 2048×1152 (2k 16:9)
  • 2048×1080 (2k DCI)
  • 1920×1080 (FHD)

The available framerates list is expansive: 23.98/24/25/29.97/30/50/59.94/60fps

Leaked Youtube footage is also available showing the cinematic prowess of the Zenmuse X7 mounted on the Inspire 2.  Watch it while you can, it may not be up for long:

It’s rumored there will even be an attachment for connection to the Osmo handheld device, but we’re still deconstructing our source for that info.

More to come, stay tuned.
