The ‘SECRET’ Kill Switch on Your DJI Spark Drone
With propeller guards and a tripod mode, the DJI Spark is actually demonstrated by DJI to be used indoors.
But whether you use it to film indoors or out, there will be times when activity around you changes rapidly and you need to take out the drone.
The sudden arrival of people or pets, or the loss off a suitable place to land (or worse, all of these while running out of battery) can mean that you need to immediately take control of the drone and make it stop. And I mean without the remote control.
It’s a feature that’s also built into the Mavic Pro, so some of you may already be familiar with it. And while it can be unnerving, its quick and easy if done carefully.
But you must exercise extreme caution when executing this maneuver, and proceed at your own risk.
Grabbing the Spark firmly from below, the drone will initially fight you and also try to move away because it’s bottom sensors have detected an obstacle below it.
While holding the Spark VERY firmly, turn it 90 degrees from horizontal. The Spark’s internal sensors will instantly detect that it’s lost horizon and shut down.
It’s worth practicing this to get a feel for it.
Again, handling any drone while it is in operation is dangerous. Proceed at your own risk.
But this is a good maneuver to have in your arsenal should the need arise.
