Step Aside GoPro: DJI Osmo Action will serve as exclusive POV camera for the Volcom Pipe Pro surf competition in Hawaii
DJI’s 4K action camera, the Osmo Action will capture all of the immersive, point-of-view action at the upcoming Volcom Pipe Pro in Oahu. Beginning today on the North Shore of Oahu, Volcom Pipe Pro brings together more than 140 of the best surfers from around the globe for an epic 13-day competition.
To celebrate the event, and the pure ethos of the action sports lifestyle, DJI and Red Bull are teaming up to use DJI’s latest technologies–including the Osmo Action and the Mavic Mini – at events occurring throughout the Volcom Pipe Pro contest period. These events will include activites such as the Red Bull Drop-In Tour, which will bring Red Bull’s skateboarding team to the Banzai Rock Skatepark, and a social media creators workshop focused on capturing the innate beauty of the area.
The Osmo Action is DJI’s first 4K action camera, featuring a dual-color screen, RockSteady stabilization and a durable design. Dustproof, shockproof, and waterproof with the ability to operate in sub-freezing temperatures, the Osmo Action captures smooth and stable videos in the most demanding conditions. Osmo Action is the ideal action camera to capture steady, high-quality footage including 4K 60p video or 12-megapixel photos.
What sets the Osmo Action apart from other action cameras, like the GoPro HERO 8, is the built-in front facing, color screen. With a simple voice command you can switch between the front and rear facing screens to perfectly frame yourself in any situation. Unlike the GoPRo HERO 8 Black which forces you to buy a efragile, flip-up add-on screen called “Display Mod” for an extra $80.
“We’re thrilled that Red Bull is continuing to push the limits of how Osmo Action can be used. Osmo Action was designed to be durable, waterproof, shockproof in these extreme situations all the while capturing smooth and stunning footage and it’s exciting to see the limits being put to the test by these athletes.”
We’ve been flying the Mavic Mini regularly since it was released, and it’s the perfect blend of quality and ease of use. At CES this year we took the Mavic Mini and Mavic 2 Pro to Red Rock Canyon just outside of Las Vegas for some scenery shots. The Mavic Mini was so much fun to fly that we put the Mavic 2 Pro back in the car!
If you want long flight time, smart flight modes, high quality 2.7K video and 12MP still bundled in a more user friendly flight app, then the Mavic Mini is for you.
Attendees interested in learning more about DJI’s products can stop by the DJI booth at the event to check out the company’s latest products, including Mavic Mini, Osmo Action, Osmo Pocket and Osmo Mobile 3. Those who stop by the booth can pick up a swag bag and enter for a chance to win a new Osmo Action by filling out quick survey. Winners will be contacted via email.
Volcom Pipe Pro will be livestreamed on Red Bull TV and Red Bull’s channels on third party platforms. Additional footage from both events will be available on DJI’s channels.
