Is The DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 Going To Be Called “Phantom 4 Pro Platinum”?
With the flurry of DJI rumors we’ve been covering this Spring, we’ve noticed that when the rumors go quiet is when the spring is being loaded. And separating the rumors from facts is what we do between articles.
Popular twitter user OsitaLV, who has been ‘forecasting’new DJI products (and sharing pre-release photos) for a year or so now says the release of a Phantom 4 Pro Platinum is “imminent”.
Earlier this year we shared news that the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 had received it’s FCC clearance for US sale.
We already knew, officially, that the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 was coming. But is it going to make it’s appearance with the name Phantom 4 Pro Platinum?
Following the launch of the Mavic Pro Platinum, it would make sense that the new Phantom 4 Pro Platinum uses new and improved FOC and ESC specifications to achieve more optimal rotor function, reduced power draw and therefore longer battery life. The addition of newly designed props, in concert with the improved motor electronics reduces noise by 60%.

If we assume the same FOC/ESC/Platinum props are applied the Phantom 4, it would potentially extend battery life by an additional 4 minutes. Not an enormous amount of time, but frequently long enough to account for return to home flight under ideal, near flight, situations.
When asked what is meant by “imminent”, OsitaLV replied “within 72 hours if DJI is on schedule”.
The Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 / Phantom 4 Pro Platinum isn’t the only new DJI drone that is on the “high probability” radar screen.
Earlier this year we shared many images of a rumored DJI Phantom 5, the next generation of the Phantom series that incorporates a camera gimbal that accepts 4 interchangeable lenses.
Much like the recently introduced Zenmuse X7 gimbal for the Inspire 2 drone, a professional level gimbal that accomodates 15mm, 24mm, 35mm and 50mm lenses mounted in front of a 1″ CMOS sensor would make the Phantom 5 the first “crossover” drone that steps over the line from Recreational to Professional.
Price points are completely unknown at this point, but we would expect the Phantom 5 to clock in around $2000, with the Phantom 4 Pro Platinum would likely price around $1700.
We also know that a Phantom 4 RTK, with more precise flight dynamics and robust resistance to field interference is also on the way.
