FAA Imposes 34.5 Mile No Fly Zone For Super Bowl, Internet Cries Foul
The FAA has issued a “Temporary Flight Restriction” (TFR) in an area that extends 34.5 miles around NRG Stadium in Houston for Sunday’s Superbowl.
The ban is in effect from 4pm to 11:59pm local time.
The obvious fact of this no fly zone is that there really aren’t any consumer drones aren’t capable of flying anywhere near the distance prescribed by the TFR.
In fact, there will likely be many backyard enthusiasts within the Houston area who may not even be aware that they are acting within a TFR zone.
To provide some scale on how large the TFR is, it is a catch-all for most suburbs surrounding Houston including Brookshire, Katy, Spring, Baytown, Alvin and as far as Needville.
If you’re inside any part of this map on Super Bowl Sunday, don’t fly your drone. Enjoy the game.
