DJI Makes FCC Application for NEW “Multilink” Device
While waiting for more news on the July 18th DJI See The Bigger Picture launch event, we received an email that DJI has applied to the FCC for a new wireless device.
Called the DJI Multilink it’s purpose is mostly left up to the imagination, but we were able to find out some key facts:
- designed for use with the DJI Cendence & C1 remote controllers
- rougly the size of a deck of cards
- multiple inputs for power and comm
- transmits across 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz
Most likely uses could be:
- bridging comm data between remote controller and other devices/streams
- multi-slave configuration
A likely evolution of DJI’s Datalink devices, the Multilink will greatly empower the movement of data between operators and devices.
DJI Cendence is the most advanced drone controller that DJI makes:
“The Cendence remote controller is a professional-grade, customizable remote controller designed for full integration with other advanced DJI products like teh Inspire 2 and CrystalSky monitor.”
Other sites, like DroneDJ, are incorrectly reporting that Multilink is some sort of wearable wireless headset, which is clearly not the case. DroneDJ also incorrectly refers to a Triple Flat Phantom test table mentioned in the filings as a Phantom 5. Phantom test tables are used for holding liquids that simulate tissue in order to measure effects on wireless radiation.
While the Multilink is merely add-on support hardweare for existing DJI technologies, we’re keen to see just how it will be deployed.
The embargo on device photos is lifted in early August, but we suspect we’ll all get to see it before then.
