BREAKING: 7.85″ DJI CrystalSky Receives FCC Authorization
Right on the heels of the FCC grant for the 5.5″ DJI CrystalSky remote control monitor, we are pleased to advise that it’s bigger brother, the 7.85 inch CrystalSky, has also received its Grant of Authorization from the FCC.
DJI has given the 7.85″ CrystalSky model #:CS785 and it’s screen size is roughly the same as an iPad mini.
Many of our readers have commented that they are unlikely to purchase the smaller 5.5″ CrystalSky based on it’s size and the fact that it’s assumed to be using an Android environment.
One interesting fact about the 7.85″ CrystalSky is that it comes in two flavors: Standard and UltraBright. The Standard version of the 7.85″ CrystalSky shares the same 1000 cd/m2 brightness as the 5.5′ model which is more than twice as bright as an iPad mini 4.
The UltraBright version of the 7.85″ CrystalSky clocks in at 2000 cd/m2 which is more than four times brighter than an iPad mini 4.

We won’t know all of the details about the 7.85″ DJI CrystalSky until we have the user manual in our hands. But we can basically assume that since they use the same 3.7V LiPo battery that the larger 7.85″ screen will have a lower battery life.
As far as we can tell, all other specs are similar. Once the CrystalSky is officially released we’ll add it to our DJI Accessories list here.
What is CrystalSky ?
Created for outdoor aerial imaging, the CrystalSky monitor features an ultra-bright screen that is clearly visible in sunlight. It is designed from the ground up to work seamlessly with the DJI GO app, giving camera operators total control.
Ultra-Bright Monitor
A maximum 2000 cd/m² of brightness means the CrystalSky monitor is more than four times as bright as typical mobile devices. On-screen details are clear and sharp, and colors are vibrant, giving the quality needed to fine tune image composition. A dedicated Sunlight Readability Enhancement mode is especially designed for processing the image in real-time to ensure more comfortable viewing under bright light.
20 % Less Latency
The CrystalSky monitor uses optimized video decoding to decode video in real-time. Due to limitations in software access on smartphones and tablets, video decoding in other smart devices is less than ideal. When used to view photos or videos transmitted by the camera, problems can occur including video jitter, long latency and more. The CrystalSky monitor’s optimized decoder provides smooth, real-time video with minimal latency (tested at 180ms) vs the Typical Mobile Device (tested at 220ms).
DJI GO app Built In
A newly designed system removes unnecessary Android apps and services and is resistant to viruses and junk software. This ensures that the CrystalSky monitor is able to offer optimum performance at all times. Its embedded DJI GO app provides full access to all DJI GO features including aircraft parameter adjustment, camera control, footage management, and playback. Using offline maps, maps can be kept available even if going out of Wi-Fi reach.
Up To 6 Hour Battery Life
A two cell 4920 mAh secondary external battery gives the CrystalSky monitor a longer operating time than comparable mobile devices. It supports quick charge, and controls its discharge rate well even in low temperatures. Used with the 7.85″ and 5.5″ screens, it can achieve a maximum operation time of 4-5 hours and 5-6 hours respectively.
The CrystalSky achieves this extended battery life by using a 3.7V 1000mAh LiPo battery, so make sure you pick up another LiPo bag here.
Two SD Cart Slots
Equipped with dual Micro SD Card slots, the CrystalSky monitor’s storage can be extended, or footage recorded on a Micro SD Card can be played back directly on the monitor. It can also be used for footage backups. Using editors built in DJI GO, high-quality edits can be made quickly and instantly shared to social media. The CrystalSky monitor supports H.264 and H.265 video decoding, allowing it to play back these files at 30 fps and 60 fps respectively. These videos can also be output through its HDMI port.
