LAUNCH: Highlights From The March 28th @DJIEnterprise Live Tweet: New Zenmuse XT2

Take me to the NEW DJI Zenmuse XT2 page NOW!

With today’s #livetweet from Palo Alto CA, perhaps the most important thing we learned about the Enterprise drone market is that no one will catch up to DJI.  Nada. Won’t happen.

DJI asked us if we’re “Excited for what’s next?”  Teasing that DJI’s enterprise solutions are reshaping how the world works. Learn how our hardware and software ecosystems empower businesses across industries.

Tweeting from the Menlo Park Fire department, which serves the Silicon Valley community of Palo Alto, the #livetweet kicked off with with some high level slides of DJI’s Vision, a summary of their Partnerships and the vision of the drone as a platform on which  users and developers can build.

DJI’s 4 pillar vision means that for drones to become widely adopted, technology needs to combine performance, accessibility, affordibility and flexibility.

The takeup of drones by commercial users has been dramatic, with over 73,000 FAA registered commercial drone pilots as of 2017.  Greater adoption and acceptance of drones will be the result of positive cooperation between system integrators, policy makers, drone service providers and software developers.  Take out one and the drone ecosystem starts to sputter.  Especially important in that group are policy makers.  And even more important in that group is determination about who is not a polcy maker….small one off communities with incorrect information banning or restricting drones and what they’re being used for.  Often when they lack the jurisdiction to do so.

The first announcement touched on DJI’s long running partnership with FLIR. DJI released a new Zenmuse XT2, a new dual sensor thermal drone solution.  The Zenmuse XT2 combines thermal and visual sensors to see the world in new ways.  The visual sensor is a 1/1.7″ CMOS sensor that records 4K video and 12MP stills.  It’s paired with a Tau 2 Thermal Core that detects the temperature gradation <50mK @ F/1.0 with 30Hz maximum frame rates.

The Zenmuse XT2 mounts on the M200 Series and the M600 Pro industrial drone platforms.  Immediately usable with DJI Pilot app for Android, the iOS DJI XT Pro app will be available later in April.

Part of moving the commercial drone ecosystem forward is enabling third party sofware developers to boltster mutual success.  DJI says they’ve been working to continuously improve the DJI Software Developer Kit, and DJI has hit over 3.5 million installations of custom apps and climbing.

The Zenmuse XT2 gimbal is pricing is not yet available.  Register here for updates on ordering, pricing and availability.

Until now DJI has been building the drone platforms and the payloads.  All of that changes today with the introduction of Paylod SDK, a system for developers, manufacturers and others to put their tools in the sky on a DJI platform.  This should dramatically increase the pace of change and expansion of more uses for aerial platforms across hundreds, if not thousands, of industries.

Simply by using the all-new DJI SKYPORT adapter, the Payload SDK allows developers to integrate literally any tool onto the M200 drone platform.  Sentera used the new Payload SDK to integrate the new AGX710 vision system on to the M200 Series drone.

It looks like DJI has reached a key ‘point of arrival’ in understanding that they can’t do it all themselves as the drone platform experts without becoming experts in the needs of every other industry. An impossible feat.

By opening up the opportunity to integrate and adopt the technologies being simultaneously developed in different corners of the world DJI will catapult itself forward as the de facto King of Industrial Drone Platforms.

“The pace of change just went exponential for DJI.”

The #livetweet wrapped up with DJI inviting all players in the full commerical drone industry to AIRWORKS2018 on October 31st in Dallas TX.

Highlighting companies that are at the forefront of enterprise drone adoption, as well as showcasing new DJI technologies the conference will focus on the growing commercial drone ecosystem and how developers, partners and operators can work with DJI to reshape the global economy wiht drones.
